Classwork, or rather class fun, will include a variety of activities designed to build a stronger bond between dog and handler, while learning skills for every day or for the show ring. Whether you are a returning student, or you and your dog are new to dog training, this class offers something for you and your dog. Practice exercises to help your dog become a great partner and a welcome member of your community. Exercises also include rally obedience coursework, attention exercises, as well as other fun activities.

Instructors: Sharon Hansbury & Marisa Underwood
Sundays 3:00 pm - 4:00pm
Criteria: Dogs 6 months and up. Dogs must be able to work comfortably near other dogs.
Content: Whether your dog is a casual walking companion, a hiking buddy, or a future agility star, one thing remains true: basic obedience is the foundation of a well-behaved dog. In this class we will work on many of the training skills needed for success in your daily life. The goal of this class will be teaching and reinforcing commands such as sit, down, place, stay, heel/loose leash, and recall. We will practice these skills through various fun exercises each week. In the last class there will be an option to test for the CGC and/or CGCA. We will cover all testing items during the session.
Equipment: No harnesses for this class. Dogs should be wearing a martingale collar at minimum. Prong or pinch collars can be used but must have a back-up clip attached to a martingale or flat collar. Handlers should also be using a 4–6-foot leash. Crates are not necessary as your dog will be out working with you. Bring lots of high/low value treats and/or their favorite toy.
Please Note: For the CGC and/or CGCA test your dog will need to wear a well-fitting buckle or slip collar (including martingale). No prong/pinch collars can be used during the test. Food/treats are also not allowed in the testing area.
Juniors welcomed

Criteria: Dog should have some basic obedience skills- sit, down. Must be comfortable being in a crate.
Content: Rally is a fun approach to obedience. Courses are set up using directional signs very similar to beginner novice obedience. Handler is allowed to talk to the dog. A different course will be set each week and different skills will be addressed. There may be games to learn skills but always there will be an opportunity to have fun with your dog. It doesn't matter if you plan on competing in rally with your dog or just want to have fun.
Junior Handlers are welcome

Instructor: Joan Curcio
Sundays 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Class starts 11/2
Criteria: At least one of you should be a beginner: a puppy, a dog new to the home, or a kid or adult interested in starting a dog sport. No prior classwork necessary. Your dog’s progress will depend on your willingness to play with your dog outside of class. One dog per handler(s).
Content: Learn to use positive-reinforcement based games to build a common language and strong bond between you and your dog. Games teach dogs to love learning and develop the fundamental skills your team needs for dog sports like agility, freestyle, dock diving, etc. We’ll play games that harness the dog’s motivation, focus, impulse control, body awareness and calmness. Your pup will learn to make choices, stay in boundaries, wait their turn, walk and run with you, recall, come in and send away, target, make pace transitions and interact with simple pieces of fitness equipment.
Bring a crate/travel mat or portable bed for your dog, toys your dog enjoys, lots of small, moist treats and water, water bowl and doggie bags. Plan to take your young dog outside for a break at least once during class. If your dog is or is learning to be comfortable in a crate, please bring it or make use of the limited community crates.
Limit: 6
Instructor: Laurie Danaher
Criteria: Dogs must be 15 months of age. Dogs must have begun to learn all contact obstacles and weaves, but do not need to be proficient. This is a skills building class meant to bridge the gap between introduction to the obstacles and being competition ready - this is not an introduction class. Bring a variety of treats - lots of small soft treats and some light-colored treats that show up well on the mats (charley bears, cheese balls, etc). Dogs must be able to rest (reasonably) quietly in the training room crates or alternatively in the kitchen or in your car. Given the limited number of club crates, please be prepared to bring your own crate. One dog per handler unless class does not fill.
Content: This class is the second in a three-part series, permission of the instructor required for those teams who have not successfully completed Pre-Novice Agility Skills 1 - preference given to teams with the prerequisite. The goal is to prepare green agility handling teams to compete at the novice level. This session will alternate between novice level standard and jumpers agility courses, and will be handled as run thrus. Class content will include advice on entering trials, learning the best way to walk a course, and other beginner basics for handlers new to the sport or with an interest in learning more.
Junior handlers welcome
Criteria: Dogs must be at least 12 months of age.
Content: This class will build on skills learned in Intro to Agility Obstacles 1. Permission of instructor required for those who have not completed part 1 - preference given to those with the prerequisite. This class will assume that dogs have begun to understand stopped or running contact work, and that they are ready to begin learning to execute the contact obstacles. We will expand tunnel work drills and begin to work on building skills for 2x2 weaves. Age-appropriate jump work will begin.
