Class Starts September 8th
no class October 6
Criteria: Dogs need to be able to walk on a loose leash and have basic commands such as sit, down, stay, and a recall on leash.
Content: Welcome to our Rally Obedience course! This six-week program is all about having fun with your canine partner while learning the basics of Rally Obedience—a sport that highlights teamwork, communication, and precision.
Throughout the course, we'll gradually introduce intermediate, advanced, and master signs each week - depending upon your levels. We'll demonstrate how to approach each sign, and, by the following week, we'll set up a course incorporating these signs to practice
moving through them.
To ensure everyone gets personalized attention, we'll divide into smaller groups where instructors will rotate among stations or the nested course. Here's a preview of our program:
● Week 1: Introduction and foundation setting.
We'll cover the basics of AKC Rally rules, importance of positive reinforcement, and fundamental commands like sit, down, and stay. Handlers will learn effective communication techniques with their dogs.
● Following Weeks: We'll introduce more rally signs, explaining their purposes and demonstrating how to perform them correctly. Handlers will practice moving accurately between signs, focusing on maintaining their dogs' attention.
● Progressive Learning: We'll gradually introduce more complex signs and combinations, such as weaving through cones, precise turns, and exercises like the figure eight. We'll also address common challenges and offer tips to overcome distractions and maintain control.
● Adding Distractions: As we progress, we'll introduce distractions like toys, treats, and other dogs to teach handlers how to keep their dogs focused despite temptations.
This class is open to all junior handlers and adults.
Limit: 8 TEAMS (HANDLER AND DOG)
